Shenanigans in detail

CALLING ALL KEYBOARD WARRIORS!!! AND ANIMAL-LOVING WALLFLOWERS...

Dr Andrew Leigh MP, Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, has called for a once-in-a-generation review into philanthropy in Australia. This is our opportunity to tell the Government how charity regulation has fallen out of step with the values of today’s Australians.

Under the current policies, tax-deductible charity status is awarded based on an outdated set of almost arbitrary rules. Because of this, some charities that do very little to improve the lives of sentient beings receive significant charity benefits while others, including many organisations that fight against animal cruelty and do the groundbreaking work that challenges common and profitable practices, receive no tax-deductibility status.

Luckily, the Productivity Commission has called for submissions for their review which means we have a chance to provide clear, well reasoned feedback on what we think needs to change.

What we will do:

The kind people at GoodAncestors.org.au have offered to facilitate a workshop to provide a better understanding of the current charity laws and, if you’re keen, help you write your own submission.

The workshop will be run by Nathan Sherburn who is Head of Operations at Good Ancestors Policy - an organisation advocating for Australian-specific policies aimed at solving this century’s most challenging problems.

So come join us in changing the charity landscape of Australia, and let's give the animals are fighting chance. After all, they have as much right to be here as we do.

You can register to attend this event for free or choose to purchase a donation ticket to your favourite organisation. We will conclude our session with a warm and social dinner.

Bring your laptops or tablets and let's use our keyboards to create lasting reverberations within the federal government on behalf of the animals and the planet.
